Where to fish?
We are seeing fluctuations daily, therefore stay tuned to the USGS discharge sites. Keep a specific eye on thirty-mile gauge station, as when they decide to stop discharging we will see significant drops in flow. Currently, the Rio Grande at thirty-mile is at 285cfs, at Wagon Wheel Gap its 564cfs, and in Del Norte it’s at 821cfs. We are seeing bumps and drops due to solid moisture in the upper Rio Grande drainages. Water to focus on currently is from Wagon Wheel Gap to CR.17.
Guide insight: Fishing is great right now, be quick to change as there is a lot going on right now. We are finally seeing a fair amount of dry-fly action. Lots of caddis and a few salmons here and there(might be a skip year because the ecosystem is all confused). Have double dry rigs ready, look for risers, key in on birds, and be willing to give your drys some movement. When the dries start to dissipate it becomes a nymph or dry-drop game.
What time to fish?
All day right now is good! You can’t go wrong. Get it while it lasts.
