Float Fishing Trips on The Rio Grande
Float trips are a wonderful way to fish the Rio Grande since they allow the angler to reach sections of the river not accessible by foot. As you travel down the river, you will have the opportunity to catch a trophy trout in hundreds of prime fishing holes.
The Rio Grande River is designated “Gold Medal Water” by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and where we fish is the LONGEST stretch in the state, nearly 20 miles! Of Colorado’s 9000 miles of trout streams and rivers, only 168 total miles have this designation. These designations are given out sparingly and represent the highest quality aquatic habitat in Colorado – your best chance to catch a trophy trout.
A full day float trip is around 8 hours, while a half-day is approximately 4 hours.

Wade Fishing Trips In & Around Creede, CO
Wade trips are a great way for anglers to spend more time ‘working’ quality water. Each season we teach hundreds of new clients the finer aspects of fly-fishing. Your guide will be by your side helping you spot and stalk the elusive trout of the Rio Grande River. We also offer wade trips on the smaller streams in the area.
Don’t assume that small streams only hold small fish, there are many impressive trout caught while ‘small stream’ fishing. Browns, rainbows, brookies and Rio Grande cutthroat can all be found in many of the smaller streams. Catching all four species on the same day is called a “Rocky Mountain Grande Slam,” and is quite a special occasion!
Which is better? A Float Trip or Wade Trip? It simply depends on the type and style of fishing that you prefer. For example, on float trips you can cast one time at each hole as you float by hundreds of prime fishing holes each day, or on a wade trip, you can cast 100 times at one hole. Variety is the spice of life!
A full day wade trip is about 8 hours, while a half-day is approximately 4 hours.

What To Bring:
We suggest breathable waders coupled with synthetic long underwear and thick socks, as the water temperatures can be cool. Felt soled or Rubber soled wading boots are a must – absolutely no studded boots are allowed in the boats, nor are they recommended for small streams.
In the mid summer heat many people prefer to wet wade on trips and find that it is very refreshing. Quick dry shorts and briefs are highly recommended. For float trips we suggest river sandals and shorts, as you will be in the boat the majority of the day.
Don’t forget your fishing vest, long sleeve shirt, hat, polarized glasses, sunscreen, bug spray, camera, medications, polar fleece pullover and of course rain gear for the daily afternoon showers.
Equipment recommendations are 8′-9′ 3, 4 or 5wt rods for dries and nymphing. Plus a 9′ 6wt for streamers and windy days. A 7′-9′ leader in 4x or 5x is preferred.
A Colorado fishing license is required.*
A one-day license is $15 to $18—Annual Licenses range from $47-$118.

The Rio Grande Angler and South Fork Anglers require a 14-day prior notice on cancellations of all trips. Any notice given less than 14 days will be charged 100% of the trip price. We fish rain or shine, trips are not cancelled due to weather conditions–the fish don’t care about the rain… they’re already wet.
