Where to fish?

We are seeing primarily decreases in flows, therefore stay tuned to the USGS discharge sites. We are officially in low water and would strongly suggest not to float fish anywhere on the upper Rio Grande. Currently, the Rio Grande at thirty-mile is at 115cfs, at Wagon Wheel Gap its 209cfs, and in Del Norte it’s at 310cfs. We are expecting the monsoon season to be very wet due to it being a super El Nino summer, so hopefully this trends positively.

Guide insight: Fish in the early morning till about noon or one. Please watch the water temps well. We are in incredibly low flows for this time of year, therefore we don’t need to stress the fish out. Fishing is still good, look for rifles and shelves. Do not focus on the banks, fish are spread out on the whole river. Think oxygenated spots! Creek fishing and still water fishing is a great option right now!! Please pull off the river once the water hits 68 degrees, don’t be that guy that flirts with it.

What time to fish?

From sun up till about 1pm. Then go fish the high country, get off the river!

 What to use?

Please give the shop a call for flies. Think smaller bugs, lighter tippets, and light presentations. It’s mostly a dry dropper game right now, with the occasional dry fly session. Give us a call at 719-658-2955, to talk about specific patterns.
