Weekly Fishing Report: 05/29/2025

Where to fish?

We are still seeing fluctuations in flow, therefore stay tuned to the USGS discharge sites. Currently, the Rio Grande at thirty-mile is 967cfs, at Wagon Wheel Gap its 1950 cfs, and in Del Norte it’s at 2450 cfs. These are heavy flows for the Upper Rio Grande. Floaters, the river is fast, be careful. We would recommend not floating the Wagon Wheel Gap section due to the low bridge. That bridge at these flows is very sketchy. Everything else on the river is a go. Best floating sections are from upper collar to CR.19 & Cr.19 to CR.17. Wade fisherman think creeks or the South Fork of the Rio Grande. Beaver creek below beaver reservoir is a great option right now!

What time to fish?

Temperatures are starting to get steady, therefore we have returned to our normal fishing time frame. Anytime from 8am to 4pm will be good. No need to get the early worm yet!

Guide insight: For the most part fish are on the banks. If you like to throw streamers, the Rio Grande is for you right now. Heavy water has them pushed up tight to the bank lines. Look for soft bank lines that have a natural cut about 2 ft of the bank, this has been the ideal holding spot recently for the main river. In the creeks the fish are scattered, think rifles, shelves, and fast-slow seam lines. **Summer water**
